Youth In Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency Vows To sell Their Vote To Anyone Willing To Win The Parliamentary Seat.
As
today happens to be the day set by the United Nations to put youth interest
into consideration, youth in Anyaa Sowutuom have voiced out their frustrations
to the current MP and also incoming MP.
In
a survey conducted by the Eagle Eye Election Team, it was observed that the
many citizens in that constituency have lost interest in elections. On a scale
of 10 – 100, only 40% stated clearly that they will go and vote, but 60% made
it clear that since the Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency was created, they have not
seen any developmental projects so they will not waste time joining a long queue
to vote.
During
the survey, about 55% of the youth stated that, they will not vote but if any
aspiring Member of Parliament wants to win the election, they will sell their
votes so that even if they see no improvement in their constituency after
election, it won’t be a problem to them since they have benefited in their own
way. Prince Yeboah, a 23 year old entrepreneur outlined few reasons why the
youth are not going to vote until they get money from any interested party.
“Since
the creation of Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency in the year 2012, NPP lead by Hon.
Shirley Ayorkor Botchway won the seat till now and she is still the MP for this
constituency but we have seen little to no improvements here. Everything
clearly shows that the development of this constituency is not important to the
ruling party and we are also not willing to vote for NDC so for that matter, we
will sleep, but if anyone is willing and ready to give us cash; we will vote
for him/her. As for Hon. Shirley, we are very disappointed in her, she is lucky
to pull out of contesting in this constituency, we would have disgraced her by
voting against her”. He stated
He
also added that the constituency lacks good roads and there is no jobs. The
youth complete school and waste their life roaming because they have no
opportunities at their disposal. But they are also willing to support anybody
who is going to bring many developmental projects to their constituency.
