Image
The Reds forward is apparently considering his future after growing frustrated with life at Anfield Mohamed Salah is unhappy at  Liverpool  and the Reds are considering cashing in on the Egyptian, according to his former international team-mate Mohamed Aboutrika. Aboutrika says the 28-year-old was particularly frustrated at not being made captain for the recent  Champions League  tie against FC Midtjylland, though there are apparently other reasons why he is unsettled at Anfield. "I called Salah about his situation at Liverpool and he is upset, but that would never affect his performance on the field,” Aboutrika told  beIN Sports. "I know that Salah is not happy in Liverpool, he told me the reasons why he is not happy but they are secrets and I cannot talk about it in public. One of the reasons that made Salah angry was that he was not the captain against Midtjylland." Salah publicly expressed his frustration at not being given the armband against Midtjylla...

UEFA Nations League: What Is It and How Does It Work?

Image
The Nations League is back: Here’s how UEFA’s latest international tournament works UEFA’s newest international football tournament is back for only the second time since it launched in 2018. The tournament largely replaced the international friendly matches, which were previously a fixture of the football calendar. But the tournament does carry some other significance: the 2018/19 iteration gave four teams the chance to qualify for Euro 2020, and the 2020-2021 fixtures provide the chance for two teams to enter play-offs for the next World Cup. What is the format? The UEFA Nations League consists initially of a league phase, with four leagues involved. Within three leagues there are four groups of four teams. The fourth league consists of two groups, one of which contains three teams, not four. Therefore a total of 55 teams will take part. Each team plays the others in their group home and away. The four group winners of League A - a league made up of the current highest ranking ...

Two more Premier League stars test positive for COVID-19 as new season approaches

Image
Manchester City have confirmed two of its players have tested positive for COVID-19, less than a week before the start of the new Premier League season. In a statement on its website, last year’s league runners up said Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte were “observing a period of self-isolation” after testing positive. Neither of the players are displaying symptoms, the statement continued. They are just the latest Premier League stars to be confirmed to have caught the virus, with games due to kick off from Saturday, September 12. The news follows the positive coronavirus test for  Paul Pogba  at local rivals Manchester United in late August. In the UK, those who test positive for COVID-19 must self-isolate for 10 days from the day of the test result, restarting the 10 days if symptoms appear. Manchester City’s opening game against Wolves is on 21 September, meaning the two players could be available for selection. The Premier League is carrying out thousands of tests each mon...

Lionel Messi: Man City, PSG, Juventus - what is the latest transfer situation?

Image
If we are talking percentages then Manchester City are very much in the driving seat to be Lionel Messi's next club. Paris St-Germain have been in touch with Messi's dad, his agent, again about the possibility of signing the Barcelona captain, who  submitted a transfer request on Tuesday. And, perhaps most intriguingly of all, Juventus are now looking at the hugely unlikely scenario of organising some very daring financial deals and sponsorships that could see Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing together for the first time. What a mouth-watering prospect that would be. But it is also close to impossible. At the end of a week of countless headlines and rumours, there are two things we now definitely know above anything else, namely that Messi very much wants to leave Barcelona and Barcelona would very much like him to stay. That is the simple analysis of what promises to become an even more complicated scenario than it already is. And the reason for that is that both sides are A...

Drogba’s FIF Presidential Candidacy Bid Rejected

Image
Access Denied International football star, Didier Drogba, received some bad news on Thursday when the Electoral Commission of the Ivorian Soccer Federation (FIF) rejected his candidacy for the presidency of the federation. "The electoral commission (...) rejects the candidacy of Mr. Drogba Tébily Didier Yves Tébily," reads a section of Article 5 of the negative decision of the commission. Rejected but with the possibility to appeal This rejection was based on criticisms of the former striker for several eligibility requirement breaches and highlights the challenges the star faced in trying to establish himself within the Ivorian football industry in spite of his international status, athletic track record and personal wealth — and beyond just being a player on the field. Eligibility Requirements Drogba, who was partly trained in France and once played for European clubs, Chelsea and Marseille, only managed to obtain sponsorship of two first division clubs — one short of the...

Andrea Pirlo: The perfect fit for Juventus? Can the maestro player be a maestro manager?

Image
On Saturday, Juventus broke the internet, in Italy at least, when they announced the sacking of Maurizio Sarri as head coach and the hiring of Andrea Pirlo - the man without an ounce of coaching experience on his CV. Pirlo, accustomed to making headlines as a legendary player for, among others, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus, is now making headlines as a manager when he hasn't even submitted his final thesis to be called a qualified coach. Pirlo? Really? The man who started chapter nine of his autobiography with the words: "I wouldn't bet a single cent on me becoming a manager though. It's not a job I'm attracted to. There are too many worries…" It's one thing to have taken on the role of Juve's under-23 coach 10 days ago - a job without pressure - and quite another to take charge of Cristiano Ronaldo and company, while satisfying the obsessions of a side desperate for European success before the veterans retire. Yet Pirlo is used to surprising u...
